Ich suche eine Person, die ab 2026 bei mir arbeiten will. Ideal wäre ein Start zwischen Januar und April.
Hier siehst du ein ehrliches Bild, wie es gerade bei uns aussieht.

Aktuell arbeiten wir in diesem großen Raum zu dritt. Außerdem gibt es noch einen Schleifraum, einen Maschinenraum, eine Küche und 2 WCs. Die Werkstatt befindet sich recht zentral in Wien im lebenswerten 2. Bezirk, gleich beim Riesenrad, einem der Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Ein riesiger Park und die Donau (zum Baden!) sind gleich um die Ecke.

Erfahrung:
Die Bewerber*in sollte ca. 2 Jahre oder länger in einer Werkstatt Berufserfahrung gesammelt haben. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass die Arbeit in meiner Werkstatt für Personen, die direkt von der Geigenbauschule kommen, wahrscheinlich zu anspruchsvoll ist. Entspannter für alle ist es, wenn schon einige Erfahrung und Routine bei Standardarbeiten vorhanden ist.
Ausgeschlossen ist es nicht, direkt nach der Geigenbau-Schule/Ausbildung bei mir anzufangen. Vor allem mit einem Erasmus+ Stipendium, über das mindestens 6 Monate Mitarbeit bei mir finanziert werden, kann das auch super klappen!

Arbeitszeit und Lohn:
In unserer Branche nennt man 40 Stunden Vollzeit. Wenn jemand lieber 32 (vier Tage) arbeiten möchte, ist das auch gut.
Bezahlen kann und will ich zunächst das, was der österreichische Kollektivvertrag für Musikinstrumentenbau vorsieht. Das ist abhängig von der professionellen Erfahrung und natürlich der Anzahl der Stunden – zwischen €18.000 und €25.000 pro Jahr netto, zusätzlich Pensions- und Krankenversicherung, Steuern und Abgaben. Für einen luxuriösen Lebensstil reicht das nicht, aber in Wien ist damit gutes Leben möglich. Wenn die/der neue Mitarbeiter*in gut eingearbeitet ist und finanziell gewinnbringend arbeitet, wird dieser Gewinn fair geteilt. Der Lohn wird also über der Inflationsrate steigen.
Urlaub sind 5 Wochen pro Jahr, außerdem gibt es in Wien 16 Feiertage, typischerweise 14 davon pro Jahr an einem Werktag.

Und was biete ich abgesehen vom Einkommen? Unter anderem:
– Interessante Arbeit an den Geigen, Bratschen und Celli meiner Kund*innen, vom kurzen Service bis zu großen Restaurierungen, auch mit regelmäßigem Einsatz von Scan und CNC-Frästechnik bei komplexen Futtern. In meiner Werkstatt können verschiedenste Techniken erlernt und weiterentwickelt werden. Es gibt wenig repetitive Arbeit.
– Die meiste Arbeit machen wir für anspruchsvolle professionelle Musiker*innen und Studierende, ein Großteil der Arbeit können wir mit genügend Zeit auf höchstem Niveau machen.
– Über 13 Jahre hat sich ein Kund*innenstamm entwickelt, den ich sehr schätze! Menschen aus vielen Ecken der Welt mit ihren Geschichten und ihrer persönlichen Musik. Sie spielen zum Beispiel in Kammermusik-Gruppen, Theatern, Orchestern und Popbands, solistisch rund um die Welt oder suchen als Schüler und Studierende ihren Weg in die Musikwelt.
– Eine gute gemeinsame Zeit in der Werkstatt. Offen Gespräche darüber, was jede*r sich wünscht und braucht, um sich wohl zu fühlen!

Und was erwarte bzw. wünsche ich mir von meinem Mitarbeiter/ meiner Mitarbeiter*in?
– Lust darauf, an Aufgaben zu wachsen!
– Engagement beim Verstehen, Planen und Umsetzen von komplexen Arbeiten
– kreative Suche nach den besten Lösungen im Sinne der Musiker*innen
– eine gute, ehrliche Fehlerkultur. Es klappt nicht immer alles, aber alles kann besprochen werden!
– 3 – 5 Tage Probearbeiten und Kennenlernen (für die Bezahlung dafür finden wir gemeinsam einen Weg!)
– Die Bereitschaft für mindestens 3 Jahre in meiner Werkstatt angestellt zu bleiben
– Interesse und Lust, nach und nach mehr Verantwortung zu übernehmen: Zunächst etwas Kommunikation mit den Kund*innen später auch mal ein paar Wochen alleine in der Werkstatt sein (damit wir nicht immer gleichzeitig Urlaub machen müssen)
– Sprache: Die meisten Kund*innen sprechen (auch) Englisch. Interesse, Deutsch zu lernen hilft generell sehr dabei, sich in Wien wohl zu fühlen.

I am looking for a person who wants to work for me from 2026, ideally starting between January and April.
Here you can see an honest picture of what it looks like today in our workshop (and a photo of me that is not 12 years old like the rest of the pictures on my website 🙂 There are currently three of us working in this large room. There is also a sharpening room, a machine room, a kitchen and 2 toilets. The workshop is located quite centrally in Vienna in the lovely 2nd district. A huge park and the Danube (for swimming!) are just around the corner.

Experience:
The applicant should have approximately two years or more of professional experience in a workshop. It has become apparent that the work in my workshop is probably too demanding for those coming directly from violin making schools. It is more relaxing for everyone if there’s already some experience and routine with standard tasks like bridges and fingerboards.
It’s not out of the question to start working with me right after violin making school or training in a business. Especially with an Erasmus+ scholarship, which finances at least six months of work with me, this could work out perfectly as well!

Working hours and income:
In our trade, working 40 hours is considered full-time. If someone would rather work 32 hours (four days) that’s fine, too. I can and want to pay the wage agreed in the Austrian collective agreement for musical instrument making. The wage depends on the professional experience and – of course – on the number of hours worked. Roughly it will be between 18.000 and 25.000 Euro per year, additionally pension and health insurance, taxes and levies.
The income does not support a luxurious lifestyle, but a good life in Vienna is possible. Once the new employee is well trained and works financially profitably, I am always sharing this profit. This means the wages will increase beyond inflation.
Vacation is 5 weeks a year, and there are 16 holidays in Vienna, typically 14 of them a year on one working day.

And what do I offer apart from income? Among other things:

– Working on my clients‘ violins, violas, and cellos, from short service jobs to major restorations, including regular use of scanning and CNC milling technology for complex patches and inlays. In my workshop, a wide variety of techniques can be learned and developed. There is little repetitive work.

– We do most of the work for professional musicians and students, a large part of the work we can do at the highest level with enough time to for excellent finishing.
– My customer base has grown and developed for over 13 years, and I really love the people who come round! People from many corners of the world with their stories and their personal music. They play in chamber music groups, theaters, orchestras and pop bands, they are soloists travelling the world or seek their way into the music world as students and students
– A good time together in the workshop, open conversations about what everyone wants and needs to feel comfortable!

And what do I expect from my employee?
– Interest in extending skills and knowledge with each task!
– Commitment to understanding, planning and implementing complex work
– Creative search for the best solutions for the musicians
– A good, honest culture of errors. Sometime things go wrong, but everything can be shared and solutions will be found!
– 3 – 5 days of trial work and get to know (as for the payment for this we find a way together!)
– the willingness to remain in the employment relationship for at least 3 years
– Interest and desire to gradually take on more responsibility: starting with some interaction with the customers to being alone in the workshop 1-2 weeks so that we don’t always have to go on vacation at the same time.
– Language: We need to find a way to communicate well, which language we use I don’t mind. Most of my customers (can) communicate in English, interest in learning German helps to enjoy Vienna. I also speak a little French and decent Dutch.
